Our school is a Title I magnet school that integrates STEM into our curriculum to give students a hands-on problem solving approach to learning. It is one of 116 public elementary schools in the county and serves a diverse population of 442 students in grades pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
Our Kindergarteners are a wonderful group of diverse hard working learners who are actively preparing themselves for first grade and their lives beyond.

My Project
The Kindergarten Team is piloting Academic Parent Teacher Teams (APTTs) for BMES of Engineering. The APTTs will discuss student data, set individual and class goals, and review strategies that will help parents support their child working towards those goals outside of the school environment.
Family engagement is a key component to student success.
At our first APTT meeting, each family will be provided with a folder containing their students' personal academic data and progress, as well as de-identified data for their classroom and their grade level as a whole. Reviewing the data with families within the APTT will allow them a greater understanding of what is typical of their class and grade, and what their child is currently achieving.
After the data review, families will be taught specific skills to practice with their child that are targeted towards reaching individual and class goals. Families will leave with a resource kit that will help them continue to practice these skills outside of the school. Funding from this project will help purchase materials for the resource kit. Each kit will contain a whiteboard, counters, magnetic letters, and other materials created by the teachers for students to use at home with their family. This program along with the kits will be instrumental in providing the home school connection that is so important for student success.
