Our high school is what most places call a "magnet school." Students come from all over the city to take a test in order to attend. Our high school is arguably the most racially diverse with about one-fourth of our students being African-American, Asian, Latino, and white.
More than 50% of our students are from families below the federal poverty level.
Nonetheless, we have a 100% college acceptance rate. Our students work hard, but they need more than what the district provides.
My school is a 100-year-old brick building. It gets H-O-T hot in the months of September and June. I do have a portable air conditioner unit from a previous DonorsChoose project, however, I need to replace the exhaust system.
The exhaust system funnels the hot air out of the classroom and is an integral part of the air conditioning system.
I cannot use a standard in-window unit because the windows in my school do not open up, they till in. So, I put the AC union on the floor and run a hose up the wall and out the window. Plus I need an amp plug adapter cord in order to plug in the units.
With these products, I hope to cool down the room during the hot months of May, June, and September.
