I am a Kindergarten Teacher in Cary, NC. I currently have 20 wonderful kindergarten students that brighten my classroom each day. As they come in, I see how excited they are to learn and how ready they are for the challenge to read. I want to help them succeed at this challenge every way I can. One way to help students learn to read better is by helping them learn beginning, ending, and vowel sounds. This allows students to have confidence in themselves when they are able to tell you what sound a words starts with. At the kindergarten level we can't just give them worksheets and tell them to learn the sounds on your own. We have to jazz it up. Maybe we should use MAGIC!! :)
The "Phonics Magic Answer Machines" help students learn their sounds while having fun. If they think it is fun, the kids will love to do it, and they will learn at the same time. These magic machines allow the kids to work in partner groups, guess the correct sound that goes with the picture on the card, and then drop the card in the box. ABRACADABRA...the card flips over and shows the students the answer. I bet you can just imagine how excited they will be when they see that they have guessed the correct sound.
I am also asking for a set of 6 word family games. These will help my students learn spelling patters, rhyming words, word families, and reading. The games come in a variety of levels to help my students who need a little more instruction and to challenge my students who understood it the first time. These games are also great when expected or unexpected volunteers come to help out in the classroom. It is an easy activity that they can understand and feel comfortable teaching.
