First grade is a fun and exciting time when students take off as independent readers and begin to enjoy reading. I am a first-grade teacher to 20 creative and thoughtful students! My students come from diverse backgrounds and have varying levels of first-grade readiness. Every day, my students walk into our classroom full of energy, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them. This year we are learning virtually. This creates a new world of learning through technology. We play, learn, and grow together.
First grade is the launch to success for my students; what they learn in our classroom lasts a lifetime.
Through generous donations, DonorsChoose.org helps me to create equity, provide learning opportunities in an interactive way, and enhance my first-grade curriculum.
My Project
First grade is such an important part of becoming a reader! My students are expected to grown six reading levels during the course of the year. They enter first grade learning to read basic beginning books and leave reading chapter books and being independent readers. Despite all the struggles the past year has brought us, my students have continued to reach all goals set for them. However, they are not allowed to pick books from my classroom library!
Children need books to be able to form a lasting love of books!
My students are ready to start reading their first chapter book, however, they can't go into my library to borrow a book. I want to give them their own set of books to add to their own library. These books will be theirs to read, keep, and enjoy over and over again.
In addition, I am asking for a gift certificate to Teachers Pay Teachers to be able to purchase resources to help us develop a reading curriculum for these chapter books.
