"All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten" Robert Fulghum said, and my kindergarten students need help to have hands-on experiences each day. Our district is facing huge budget cuts and our classroom needs your help.
I teach a full-day kindergarten session and throughout my day I instruct 25 kindergarten students in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.
In order for my students to learn and experience all of the subject matter we utilize small group/center instruction to meet our diverse learning needs. We are a high-need school in a rural community.
I am faced with the challenge of providing supplies and resources during this time of budget cuts. Resources must be durable in order to sustain the many little hands that will utilize and discover new skills and knowledge.
My Project
I am requesting literacy centers that teach us sight words to increase our reading levels, math centers that teach us about geometry, addition, and subtraction, and listening centers to facilitate our center based learning. We need hands-on opportunities to explore and learn. As I described above, these items are essential to the center concept that is helping my kindergartners thrive in their learning environment and will allow our classroom to be organized and safe as we work in our centers. It will give hands-on experiences through-out all subject matter and will allow for more individualized instruction.
Your support of "ABC's Here, 123's There, Learning is Everywhere!" will make it possible for my current 25 students and my future students to:
Work at their own level, develop social skills by learning to share and cooperate,
learn responsibility and organizational skills, repeat and practice skills, engage more senses and activate more pathways to the brain with hands-on centers and integrate a variety of skills and concepts.
