I teach both a morning and an afternoon session of 4K in a school district where many students face the challenges of poverty. The year they spend in 4K is normally their first school experience, and I want to provide them with the best possible learning experience and set the foundation for a love for learning that hopefully will stay with them for a lifetime. I do not think there is much greater in life than looking into the eyes of a child and watching them grow, discover, and learn about the world around them. As an early childhood educator, I strive to provide my students with a classroom environment that enables them to spend their days learning and having fun.
My Project
It has often been said that young children learn best through play and research supports this. I am looking to add more games and activities to my collection so I am able to incorporate more math and literacy activities into my classroom. Many kids who enter my 4K classroom have not had the opportunity to spend much time in a classroom environment. For many, it is their very first experience with school. I want them to have the best possible experience by actively engaging them in learning. I also want to set them up for success in kindergarten by planting “abc” and “123” seeds. I want to provide them with the necessary tools they need to develop their skills in the areas of literacy and math and be able to watch them smile and have fun learning through play.
