My students need math and literacy activities. Given the individual differences among my students they need to engage in meaningful experiences in a print-language and mathematical rich environment to help close the achievement gap.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is made up of 15 curious children who come from culturally and economic diverse backgrounds. They are between the ages of three and four. Half of the class spends close to ten hours a day in school as many parents work long hours or multiple jobs in order to provide for their children.
The children in my class are eager to learn and explore, however, many of them do not have the opportunity to engage in enriching literacy and math activities.
They deserve to have hands on enriching materials to build early literacy and math skills.
Young children benefit from hands on experiences and my class is no different. Each day the children arrive eagerly to make new discoveries .
My school follows the New Jersey Department of Education approved creative curriculum model which is aligned with New Jersey Preschool Standards. Children are engaged in hands on studies that are project based investigations.
My Project
The materials that I have selected will provide children with play based learning to help build literacy and math skills that will build a strong foundation for academic success.
To help address the achievement gap that many of my students will face due to coming from low income and English As A Second Language homes, I need to provide them with access to hands on materials to help build the foundation for later academic success.
By providing a supportive environment that includes access to these hands on materials my students will build literacy and math skills as well as conceptual knowledge.
These materials will be available daily for the students to use during center time. Some children will benefit from reading the books with math and literacy concepts and others will use the manipulatives. The letter and number locks also allows the children to use fine motor skills. The counting tree, number bots, and ladybug number match are a fun and educational way for the students to learn number and letter recognition.
