My students need sorting activities, writing activities, magnetic numbers, and manipulatives to build mathematics, letter recognition, reading, and fine motor skills.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students have special needs, and with that, they need special activities and lessons to meet their individual academic needs. My students are eager to learn and take on each day as a new adventure in learning.
My class is made up of amazing students in Kindergarten and First grade.
They are apart of a cluster labeled as Intellectually Delayed. The school is located in an urban area and is low-income. We are limited on funds and access to materials needed. My students are so energetic and feed off of learning and all the activities that they participate in. They are all so unique in not only their academic levels, but in personality. My class is made up of 6 students, 2 girls and 4 boys. One student is in a wheelchair and has several physical limitations, but that does not stop him in his drive to learn. I have a student with down-syndrome, but she is kind and enjoys group activities. These are just a couple of examples. My class is labeled as ESE (Exceptional Student Education), but they are more than a label. They are exceptional.
The activities I have listed will provide my students the opportunity to develop their academic needs that are apart of their Individualized Education Plan. These items will be included in daily center work and discovery time. These items will be implemented daily to increase the students' academic growth. The magnetic numbers will aid in my teacher directed center where I work in small groups. These numbers will help in number recognition, counting, and basic addition. The peg activity is specifically for my physically handicap student. It is very difficult to find activities that he is able to do. I make a lot of them for him to do. This will be perfect for him during math time. The other activities will help all my students in building their mathematics skills, sorting skills, and letter recognition. I believe these items will help in meeting their IEP goals.
These generous donations will help my classroom tremendously.
These items will be implemented into center time and self discovery time. My students have special needs and need special activities and lessons to build academic skills. Each student has several academic goals, and I am excited to see them grow with each new activity and lesson that I introduce.
