My class is made up of 20 energetic, fun-loving, and eager-to learn preschoolers. They demonstrate curiosity and creativity. They have varied interests and abilities. Who knows who may grow up to be a biologist, an engineer, a teacher or a doctor? I want to provide them with as many educational experiences to explore their world as I can.
They are learning to play and playing to learn.
Each day they enter my classroom, I want to provide them with unique learning opportunities, planting the seeds for bigger and better things. Preschool is an important start to what I hope is a lifelong love of learning!
My Project
Early childhood classrooms must be print-rich environments, begging children to explore the shapes of letters, experiment with the sounds of letters, and filled with high-quality literacy materials. I have chosen these materials which will add to the opportunities I can provide my students to gain pre-reading skills the best ways they can-through play.
Activities that provide experiences which will help children gain the ability to hear individual sounds in words and play with those sounds, give them experiences in how print works, allow for hands-on experiences for letter formation, and encourage LOTS of talking between peers under the guise of play help children learn in the best possible way.
The light table letter tracers will be a fantastic addition to our light table manipulatives-giving the children yet another way to practice identifying and writing letters, especially those in their name. The alphabet sound tubs are 3-dimensional objects children can touch and use to name and hear those initial letter sounds. They can be used for a variety of games and activities to practice letter/sound recognition. The alphabet bubbles will make a great addition to water play/sensory bin activities, matching letters in seek-and find activities, for example. The alphabet stampers can be used in art and literacy activities. For instance, as children stamp letters, teachers can guide children to notice the shapes of the letters and sort the letters into categories (holes, no holes, straight lines/curves, capital/lowercase, etc.).
