Help me give my students supplies to make our year-end ABC Fashion show a hit with Silly Letter sentence strip hats for each letter and grocery bags which we will transform into Fancy Letters vests for the runway!
I teach PreK and I love it! My students are part of our VPK (Voluntary PreK) and PreK ESE program. My team includes 4 classes of 3 and 4-year-old VPK and ESE students. Together, we have 56 students. We work to ensure our students are ready for kindergarten academically, socially and physically.
Our school is a Title I elementary school in Florida where the majority of students receive free or reduced-price lunch (80%).
Their living and family situations are not ideal, but each one has a desire to learn and make someone proud.
Some students are in transitional housing, some live in homeless shelters or with multiple generations. Their individual needs may be different depending on the economic struggles they face, but each day we work together to meet everyone's social-emotional needs. Our PreK students are so special! We love their energy, inquisitiveness and willingness to try new things. These little guys are our future leaders!
My Project
What better way to show how much you have learned by strutting your stuff down a runway! Our PreK students want to show that they are ready for kindergarten by showing off their letter knowledge. Our year end celebration will be a fancy fashion show.
Each of our PreK students will transform a plain grocery bag into a Letter Vest decorated with things that begin with their designated letter!
For the final month of school, we will focus on a letter a day. We will create a headband (using the sentence strips) where we practice writing our name and the special daily letter and attach a silly picture with the beginning sound of the letter! Students predict what the next silly headband will be! So excited to come to school each day to interact with letters and sounds.
We are also learning to build words with our sounds and will surround our room with our writing. Providing lots of confidence building for our pre-readers.
The final activity is to create our letter vests and make way down the runway to present to our parents how much we have learned and the fun we have had along the way.
