Have you ever been bullied? ABC Family is reaching out to help schools combat this growing problem. My students are in the Special Education Program for students who have been identified as at-risk. They feel pressure at home and at school, and their art class is a safe place to express themselves.
SOTA provides a specially tailored Special Education Program for students who have been identified as at-risk within the San Francisco School District.
Our students have experienced, and continue to experience, struggles both in school and out of school. They come from low-income homes, many with incarcerated or otherwise absent parents. We have been working diligently to develop creative programming to engage and encourage our students and their education.
My Project
This is a hands-on art project with a final product that our students will be able to keep and display throughout the school. Unfortunately, bullying runs rampant in our special education department. Our students struggle with emotional disturbances that make it extra challenging to relate to one another in a positive manner. The t-shirts and buttons that students will create and then wear will serve as a visual reminder of how important it is to interact with their peers in a way that creates a positive and safe learning and social environment.
Our funding is low for art projects and this will help to bring in new and creative activities to keep our students interested.
While making the T-shirts with transfers and buttons they will learn about bullying and how it effects themselves and others.
