"The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery." -Mark Van Doren
My students are a melting pot of cultures, learning styles, and abilities.
They are young learners who thrive on opportunities to demonstrate what they know. They are learning to read, write, express themselves in a variety of ways and many new math concepts.
They are four and five year old’s who need to touch things to learn and see real life objects to make connections. All of the items in this project will give them an opportunity to see and touch the alphabet in a variety of ways to help the learning stick.
My Project
My students start school at 4. They need hands on games and learning tools to make learning exciting. I want to provide them with exciting options for both learning activities and free choice time. We will use all materials and large and small group activities.
I plan to use the ABC tubs and games weekly with our letter of the week.
They will use them in both direct instruction with me and as learning games on their own. Lots of the activities in this project will also increase their hand strength making writing easier.
The math counters, gears, and maze items will be used to further their number sense and build a love of engineering. We will be doing STEM activities every Monday. I believe all students should have opportunities to build things.
