This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are in a Title I preschool and 100% of our students receive free lunch. Many of the students have a parent in the military. The children must meet at-risk criteria to attend this program. The criteria include family income, identified disabilities, parent employment, and English proficiency.
I provide a creative classroom environment with materials in the learning centers that are empowering students through art.
I also provide science, technology, engineering, and math activities. I believe this will prepare all my students to be successful in kindergarten and beyond.
My Project
In my class, we start and end our day on the carpet working on our calendar, phonemic awareness, nursery rhymes, math activities, science and read aloud. I utilize my large carpet daily for whole group instruction, as well as a comfy space for my students to use during center time.
This brightly colored, ABC carpet will give each student a space to call their own!
This Absolutely Beautiful Carpet (ABC carpet) will also assist my students with their letters by starting off the year with each student having their own letter to sit on. I will change seats often to help the students learn their ABCs. I will also use this carpet as a center with corresponding lowercase ABC beanbags that the students will match to the uppercase letters on the carpet.
