Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work with five and six year old students that learn about the world through play and exploration. My students are inquisitive, energetic, and love to learn.

I believe in learning through real life experiences.

Our kindergarteners will be learning about plants and animals this spring, and would love the opportunity to visit our local zoo to help make connections to the things we are learning in class.

Our district does not have funding for field trips, but I believe that our students deserve to have experiences similar to other students in districts with this funding. This field trip would not only be a great educational experience, but would also the first (and only) time ever visiting the zoo for some of our students.

My Project

Help us see the animals we are learning about in real life! For the remainder of the year we will be learning about different types of animals, their habitats, and what they need to survive in science. In writing, we will become 'experts' on an animal of our choice, doing research and writing a book to teach others about our animals.

Giving the students an opportunity to see animals in real-life, talk about how they live, and being able to compare different animals together will help reinforce all the learning they did over the semester.

It would be a great experience!
