I am an elementary school music teacher in a charter school serving a high-need community in Brooklyn, New York.

One of the most exciting aspects of being a music teacher at my school is that I have an after-school band. Fourth and Fifth grade students are empowered by this opportunity to play band instruments and to work together as an ensemble. I think band is a wonderful program for students to learn to love music and also to learn about the responsibilities and rewards that go along with learning an instrument.

My students have shown great interest and curiosity in playing mallet instruments. I am thrilled to see that they understand the percussion section is more than just drums, and I want to give them the opportunity play a band xylophone. I am asking for one student xylophone and a set of mallets to play it. I know that this instrument will inspire them to become even better musicians, and I am excited at the possibility that they will develop new skills on an instrument.

With your help, my students will be able to play an instrument that they are really excited about. Your contribution to our classroom will create a memorable and valuable experience that they can take with them throughout their lives!
