Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
High energy, loving and caring, always eager to try and learn new things: those are just a few words to describe my students. They are much more than that!
Even though my school is a Visual & Performing Arts Magnet, our mission is to create a well-balanced learning environment between academics and arts.
My students are not just amazing and creative artists, they also have the strong desires to explore the worlds of literature, math and science. They are hungry for new information and exposures such as watching the live performances, going to museums and working on projects that are connected to their daily life.
They are truly amazing!
My Project
As an educator, I am always seeking ways to improve student learning, and the theory of flexible seating really caught my attention. Flexible seating allows students to find comfortable positions throughout the classroom. I am planning to use artificial grass tiles and cushions to create an outdoor flexible seating area for my students to read books and write.
While traditional desks are still needed inside my classroom, I want to create an outdoor oasis with flexible seating for my students; a sanctuary where they will be able to read, write and create as a community.
I believe this outdoor space will make learning fun and will have direct impact on student achievement. Comfortable students are calm, focused, and productive. Students learn better when they have a chance to work together.
