This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Welcome to Mr. Yang's 2nd Grade! In our class, we have a morning mantra "Today is a good day to have a great day!" Everyday, I get to teach and love a group of 25 2nd graders who love to learn, think and make mistakes. We learn from each other in our journey to get to college.
My students are amazing second graders who live in the inner city.
They come to school everyday ready to learn and grow. To them, school is a safe haven, where they can depend on getting a hot meal, positive social interactions, and love from their teachers.
My Project
A classroom library is a place where I would like for my students to feel excited about. Every book in the library has a special place in my student's book boxes where they are treated with care. All of these books have been chosen with the intent of exposing my students to more nonfiction chapter books. My students tend to think nonfiction texts are "boring" and "unexciting" to read because nonfiction is full of facts. The Who Was? and What Was? series takes a new spin on nonfiction that engages students through creative storytelling. I know my students will be hooked from the moment they pick up to the books till the moment they finish.
Fostering the love of reading is key to creating future leaders of the world.
My students have vivid imaginations and big dreams they want to accomplish. These books would allow my students to see that any dream is possible, no matter how big or small that dream may be.
