Remember who you looked up to as a kid? I would like to provide my students with exposure to people they can look up to.
My 2nd graders are sweet, caring and eager to learn.
They love coming to school and enjoy telling others about the things they have learned. Our school is comprised of more than 60% of our students receiving free or reduced lunches. Because of this, many of my students have never even stepped outside of the county. This makes learning about people who have changed our world so unheard of for many of my students.
My Project
My students need a variety of books. These biographies will change my students' lives for the better because they will expose them to people who have fought against the norm and sought change and innovation for the world we live in. My students will learn about people who have made a difference in their lifetime and how that affects them now.
Teaching students about various people and their contributions to society is also a new part of the common core curriculum that teachers in North Carolina are required to teach. These materials will be used year after year to teach many more children about the people who have become famous for changing the world.
By teaching students about a number of people who have done something significant in their lifetime, I hope to inspire my students that they can do anything, as long as they put for the work and effort necessary.
My students will hopefully learn that the world is a big place but one single person can make such a difference.
