A World of Diversity in Pre-K's Dramatic Play Center!
Help me give my students puppets, costumes and props for the dramatic play area to fully appreciate people of other cultures through dressing up and food!
My students are enthusiastic and engaged in all aspects of learning. They come from a variety of ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. As all young children come to school with a variety of learning styles, we must provide an array of materials to meet and stimulate their growth. We must also document their achievements through the visual use of photographs.
Pre-kindergarten students are the youngest learners in a vibrant school community which is filled with supportive, involved parents.
Teachers also go beyond their role of "classroom teacher" and get to know children across the grades through inter-visitation and collaboration.
My Project
We live in one of the most diverse cities in the world! Though students and their families come from a variety of backgrounds, they don't often get to "practice" what it is like to walk in some one else's shoes.
Center based learning is the focus of the Pre-K Classroom.
Our "Pretend" (dramatic play) center is the hub of daily activity. Having the clothing, food and puppets that we are requesting would enhance considerably the experience of these young learners.
With adult support (conversation and scaffolding), students will have the opportunity to develop new vocabulary, as well as empathy for those around the world. We work hard on reinforcing the importance of kindness!
