My students need visual supports that are in color. A color printer will support student learning by providing worksheets and graphic organizers in color. Color coding helps students process and learn new information.
Students that go into the RSP room range from grades K-6th and all have special needs. They are in a general education classroom a majority of their day and receive specialized instruction in English Language Arts and Math through RSP services. Some of the struggles my students face are with Autism, Dyslexia, Speech Impairment, ADHD and other health related issues, and learning disabilities. They are energetic, curious, caring, hardworking, and, most of all, eager to learn! The parents and staff work closely together to build a strong support system and a positive learning environment.
My Project
The materials and supplies I'm requesting will help my students that struggle to process information visually. By having an HP OfficeJet 3830 All-in-One Inkjet Printer and Astrobrights Color Paper, they will be able to use worksheets, graphic organizers, and other supports in color. No more black and white!
Visually friendly lessons is key!
Having access to worksheets in color will help organize thoughts and new lessons learned. Research has shown that color coding is important because it helps students process new information as they are learning it. I use multi-sensory strategies to engage my students and support learning. Specifically, we color code our high-frequency words when learning how to decode words. We also use pictures to expand our understanding of vocabulary. If in color, our math reference sheet will be used to help us solve word problems.
The cardstock and colored paper will be used on the walls of the classroom for motivational posters, progress monitoring, rules, and student work.
