Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Be the one to help my students experience literature at their level. Help in continuing to foster a love for reading, by providing my students with a variety of leveled books that will keep their interest and and imagination alive.
My students are 2nd grade English Language Learners in a high needs, Title I elementary school in New York City, where approximately 95% of the students receive or qualify for free-or-reduced priced lunch and live below the poverty line.
They have diverse English proficiency levels. They are active, smart, and independent. Also, they are extremely hard workers and willing to push themselves as much as they can to become fluent English readers.
My Project
My students need books level F,G, H to enhance their reading skills. These leveled books will continue to foster a love for reading in my children and help them feel successful. I want to help them grow into competent English readers by establishing a solid literacy foundation and a love for books. My students read independently at school and at home. When reading independently, they apply the decoding skills we are learning, continue to build on their comprehension skills and reading stamina. The leveled books help my English Language Learners become better readers because they are matched to the right books giving each one the opportunity to develop essential skills at his own pace and feel successful.
My ESL students need these books to help them develop lifelong reading skills in English such as fluency, expression, and comprehension.
