A Wonderful Classroom Library

My students need new books for our classroom library. In order to keep them engaged in becoming better readers we need new high interest books on a variety of levels that will excite them!

My Students

Our class is a hard working group of kids from Brooklyn, New York. Our class is a mix of special education and general education students. They require different kinds of support to learn. One thing that they all have in common is the way good books grab their attention and inspire them as writers.

This is a fifth grade ICT classroom, which means there are two teachers, and a mix of special education students and general education students.

Everyone is expected to follow the same curriculum, However, the students with special needs are given extra support and often need lessons adapted and modified to meet their needs. This class is full of creative and thoughtful students who are always enthusiastic and eager to learn. They are a wonderful group of kids! They come from a variety of backgrounds but could all benefit from high interest books on different reading levels especially as they get ready to go off to middle school.

My Project

New high interest fiction books have the power to inspire our young readers. We are always looking for ways to keep our students engaged and help them improve their reading abilities. A new set of books that cover a variety of genres, topics, and authors, will be exciting and motivating to our class.

We have some reluctant readers who have been struggling to move up levels, and have great difficulty sitting to read for long periods of time.

We know that if we had newer and more appealing books for our students to choose from that they would be more engaged and more likely to want to build up their reading stamina.

We are grateful for all the books we have. We are just always trying to find new ways to keep our students interest. We know that if we can keep their interest in reading while they are at this age, that we are increasing their chances of being lifelong readers!
