My students come from a variety of backgrounds and come from households where many different languages are spoken. The students in my classes are in the Gifted and Talented program and are in third, fourth, or fifth grade. My school is a Title I school in which 100% of the students receive free lunch.
They are very curious and love any project that is hands-on.
They have many questions about energy and have been working hard on finding those answers through research and experimentation.
My students have been learning about renewable and non-renewable energy. They have had the chance to try out solar-powered gadgets, but are very curious about wind power. They have read about how wind energy works and watched videos, but there is nothing like experiencing the power of a machine. They need a hands-on way to learn more about how an actual wind turbine works.
With this wind turbine, my students will be able to build and test different designs on a working wind turbine!
They will then be able to share their knowledge of this technology with parents and other students.
