My Students

I'm a new teacher that came into an established sixth-grade classroom mid-year. Our school is in a high poverty area where students have grown up with many hardships. The majority of my students are Hispanic with English as their second language. About 98% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast.

My students come to my class wanting a safe environment from hardships they may be dealing with outside of school!

This classroom is the largest in the school with 25 students. K-5th have all been split into 2 classes for each grade, but 6th grade is all in one room. With so many students we have to create a safe, organized, and effective learning environment for these wonderful kiddos! Even though I am new to them, we have quickly built a family relationship and these students know that this classroom is a safe place for them to be. Each one of them is a caring student who holds high values of respect and responsibility. All my students are very enthusiastic to learn and grow their minds for their futures! My goal is to continue giving my students this safe, comfortable learning environment to continue their learning.

My Project

I am so excited to create a safe and effective learning environment for my new sixth-grade class.

As a new teacher (entering mid-year to an established classroom) my goal is to give my students the basic tools they need to succeed!

The seating arrangement in my class is tight (with 25 students) and desk dividers will give my students a sense of privacy during testing. The storage drawers and pencil boxes will help keep them organized with easy, go-to supplies readily available to them. Posters will aid them in remembering the importance of kind words and hard work! New books are also an exciting treat for these students as many of them have a passion for reading that I would love to see continue.
