This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school that serves students that require 100% free breakfast and lunch. Due to the budget cuts, our school has very limited resources available to our students and our teachers.
Most of my students speak a language other than English outside of the classroom.
It is challenging for them to get help at home with homework because their parents may not speak English, or they may not speak it fluently. I am always looking for new ways to help increase their English vocabulary.
My students are curious and excited about learning. I want to be able to provide them with every opportunity to do so.
My Project
I did a book project a few months ago and my students were obsessed with the stories and characters. I was so excited to see their excitement for listening to stories. Because of that, I have decided to create another project for books. I have a new bunch of children that LOVE to hear me read. They are always asking "is it almost story time?" Hearing that warms my heart, because I know the importance of reading.
Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world.
It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. Other great benefits are vocabulary expansion, memory improvement, and improved focus and concentration.
Please help me give all of these beneficial things to my students.
