My school aims to create students that are able to go out into the world and immediately put their knowledge of it to work. They are all amazing people with one small fault (through no fault of their own)- many of them have never left Texas. Because of this, sometimes it is difficult for my students to connect with larger ideas and to practice empathy and understanding for people in situations they’ve never heard about.
The students this project helps include ESL learners, students coming to terms with their true selves, and students that have no even begun to explore their true selves.
My goal for the upcoming school year is to help them explore the world around them through literature.
My Project
My students go to school in a small Texas town- many times I find it difficult to get them to pick up a book- my goal with my expanding classroom library is to change that mindset. Thanks to previous Donor's Choose projects I have quite a few high-interest books in my library, but my goal is to continue to be a source of these books.
As we know, knowledge is power and reading plays a huge key in how my students see the world; my goal with this project is to provide a variety of high-interest books that diversify their mindset and represent as many nationalities, sexualities, and backgrounds as possible.
I know from experience and from watching my students that sometimes it takes one book to completely change one's understanding of the world around them.
