My Students

I have the privilege of working with middle level students on a daily basis. Students in my classroom come from very diverse backgrounds, but they all have amazing potential. I am constantly in awe of their creativity, passion, and dedication when it comes to learning.

The curriculum in my classroom this school year is centered around life science, and as a means to achieve our learning targets, I am actively engaging students in STEM education principles to enable them to be successful as 21st century learners.

My Project

"Mrs. S did you see . . . on the news!?" is not an uncommon phrase in my science classroom. I am so fortunate to work with a population of students who have an extreme interest in science, however, not all of them have access to the engaging real-world science phenomena.

Having access to Science World magazines in my classroom, will allow me to expose every student in my class to amazing news stories that will deepen their understanding of the content we are learning.

I believe that if kids are able to make connections between what we teach in the classroom and the real-world, they are more likely to become engaged and, hopefully, encouraged to become informed and active stakeholders in our community.
