One tenet of successful mathematics teaching that I have noticed as a teacher is that my students need to understand the relevance of the math they are learning in their own lives outside the classroom. I always try to incorporate skills within the curriculum that will help prepare them for the future. In addition, I always seek to do so in a way that makes sense to them at this critical point in their lives.
Students always notice and appreciate the organization and structure that I provide in the classroom.
I believe that by being organized myself, I can model essential skills that will help my students become more successful in their other classes and daily lives. In addition, when students can easily access the materials they need, they will be able to focus on the tasks at hand.
I have seen firsthand how much the availability of resources and technology can improve a students' learning experience. There are so many great resources available to show students why understanding mathematics is relevant to their real-world experiences. This cannot be accomplished without technology like iPads that students will use outside of classroom in the future.
My Project
My students need a variety of supplies to make the classroom environment more successful. First, they need toner and a drum kit for our classroom printers. We often need copies of helpful notes worksheets to make learning more about the math, so we need toner so we can continue to do this. Additionally, we use color when creating projects so we need more color toner so we can bring our work to life.
We also need additional supplies for Algebra to make the classroom more engaging.
We need colorful word wall posters to reinforce our key words. We also need graphing paper for our notebook so we can practice our math skills.
Lastly, students enjoy learning and do better when positive behavior is rewarded. We need to replenish our rewards supply so that positive behavior can be recognized and rewarded. Additionally, stickers are used to draw attention to academic success on assessments.
