This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the pleasure of teaching a first grade classroom full of extremely motivated learners, despite the hardships they face. My students live in an underserved community on the south side of Chicago. Our school serves 99% low-income students.
They are very curious and love to explore through learning.
They are a very inspirational group of young people and deserve to have the best education possible. Each of my students have the potential to be contributing member of society, and need to be exposed to as much content as possible to prosper.
My Project
Chicago is known for their unbearably cold winters. Our students come to school no matter how cold it gets. The majority of students live in the neighborhood and walk to school.
My students often times walk to school without the appropriate clothing needed for the harsh temperatures.
These hats and gloves would insure that all students are given the resources to make it to school in warm clothing. When students come to school without the clothing to keep them warm, it does not set them up for a productive day of learning. It can take hours before they are no longer upset from the walk to school. When students are upset, they can not learn.
