Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The PreK and Kindergarten students at our school are truly special. They are smart, enthusiastic, resilient balls of energy. Students at our school especially enjoy activities and learning adventures in which they are free to interact with instructors and their peers, participate in hands-on experiences, and engage with their surroundings to gain knowledge about the world around them. They are insatiably curious, excessively talkative, and so very funny.
Most students that attend our school are second language learners.
We are a Title I school indicating that many of our families are struggling to provide the basics for their children. Even with big obstacles, our children are doing great things!
My Project
Many children in our school community have not had the opportunity to travel outside their own neighborhood or city. Visiting the Santa Ana Zoo would be the first zoo experience for many of our students. Giving children the gift of invaluable "outside the classroom" opportunities to learn helps to bridge the achievement gap that exists when compared to children who have more advantages.
Learning about animals is so motivating for our students!
They are naturally curious about the world around them and they are fascinated by how different animals look, behave, grow, and change. At the Santa Ana Zoo, our kindergarten students would have the opportunity to learn about animal adaptations through an animal expert presentation, visit hands-on learning stations, and observe many different types of animals.
