I have had the joy of teaching third grade for the past 6 years! I have grown to understand that for a classroom to run successfully I have to teach my students more than reading, math, science, and social studies. In our classroom, my students learn how to persist through challenges, work collaboratively, and respect one another and themselves.
Working at a Title I school, sometimes my students need more than curriculum to be successful, they need to know that they are safe and someone cares about them.
Students who feel like they have someone in their corner will work far harder than students who feel like a test score. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing your students apply what they’ve learned to a real-life situation and have that, “A-ha!” moment.
The Ron Clark Academy is known for helping students who come from poverty achieve amazing academic feats. They do so by providing engaging, active learning opportunities while maintaining the structure that is needed to reach all students. I work in a Title I school so I am working with students living in poverty every day as well. I need better strategies to reach all students!
I want to visit the Ron Clark Academy to learn strategies that engage students while preserving the rigor needed to meet today's educational expectations.
When I return from this professional development I know I will be able to implement an action plan that will build the engagement in my classroom so that my students can achieve major academic and character gains this year! Your generous donation will directly impact my students.
