Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

What better to inspire kids to love to read and write than taking them to a Book Factory and letting them create their very own original books? As a fourth grade teacher, in a Title I School In Need of Improvement, my students and I spend a majority of our day reading, writing and studying mathmatics. My school has no arts or music programs and because of the demands of the literacy and mathematics curriculum, my students have limited exposure to other subject areas. Recently, my students have become very excited about writing their own fiction stories. Never have I seen my students so excited about writing! Currently, they are writing their own versions of Cinderella. Three students chose to set the story in their country of origin - Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Mexico - and they have done a beautiful job describing the landscape, costumes, and food. As I began to think about publishing options for their stories, I came across "The Klutz Book Factory." What better way to inspire my students to read and to write than to give them the opportunity to visit the Scholastic store, and use art materials to publish their very own book! This incredible experience is currently unreachable for my students, because their families cannot afford to pay for the cost of the trip. Thank you in advance for making this adventure possible for my students!
