Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Most of our middle school students enter this year below grade level in reading and math. Our school is a neighborhood school with mostly low-income families with many students having siblings in lower grades. All of my students receive free lunch under the federal Title I program. 50 percent of my students this year are formally identified with Special Needs including ASD, SLD and many English Language Learners. Some have social anxiety and class presentations/public speaking are very hard for them.
My students, many with special needs, come from low-income households, yet they come to school every day excited to learn They have been working extremely hard this year, improving their independent scientific techniques and making discoveries that they are extremely excited to share with an audience larger than our classroom; they have put the challenge on me to make every available resource available to them to help them succeed.
My Project
Many of my students are still learning English and/or have social anxiety and are fearful of public speaking and presentations. Often, I feel their voices and contributions go unheard by their classmates and their contributions to the class are overlooked.
This video camera will allow the students to record their own presentations or film one another so they work and improve their verbal presentation skills; My English Language Learners in particular are more comfortable after repetitive practice and reflection, otherwise they feel embarrassed with mispronunciation.
Students will be able to edit/reshoot and enhance their footage. using WeVideo Software so they can put forth their best work.
