A Very Merry Holiday! Post Irma
My students need turtle pillow pets, sketch pads, and markers so they have something to do over winter break.
I teach at a small community-oriented Title I school where 98% of our students live below the poverty level. On a daily basis when we drive to work we'll see more than half our families walking and riding bikes to school.
Our school is a special place where students know they are safe and loved by everyone.
The kids are always so excited to come back to school from summer break. They love being at school, and we love being at school with them.
Hurricane Irma devastated our town about three months ago. Many of our students were left homeless, and all of their belongings were destroyed. Never in a million years did we think that the recovery process would take this long. We're still trying to get everyone back on their feet.
No matter where our kids sleep at night, they'll have a soft pillow pet to sleep with.
The pillow pets will offer my students something to comfort them when they don't know where they're sleeping from night to night. The sketch pads and markers will bring out the STEM in my students. I can't wait to see what they create with them!
