Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
They come from diverse backgrounds and have varied life experiences.
They are all eager to learn and love to feel special. It is my goal to connect with each one of them on a personal level and to make sure they feel heard and acknowledged. I have come to realize that when they know that I am acknowledging what makes them special and unique, they are more willing to participate in class and share their special gifts.
One of the ways I acknowledge them is by providing flexible seating and individualized learning goals and supports. I can speak with them about their learning strengths and challenges. We set goals in order to achieve success. If it is helpful, I can provide a special seat or tool that help them.
My Project
My goal is to create a classroom that supports student learning and makes them feel comfortable and happy. This special atmosphere will allow them to do their best work. The wobble stools give the students a chance to wiggle just enough while they work. This is a novelty for some and a necessity for others. These two additional stools will allow me to rotate them through other students, for the fun of it, while dedicating some to specific students that truly benefit from the movement they provide.
It is my experience, when a student feels at home in the classroom, they are more prepared for learning.
The colorful cushions provide a comfy place to sit without costing as much as a new chair. The students also love to have an extra bit of movement while they work. The colors also brighten up the classroom and reinforce the idea that the classroom is a place for them.
The timers I am requesting are an important support as they help students learn to better manage their time. The timer is designed to show them in a clear visual way, how much time they have remaining, to complete their task.
The stools will provide a fun place to sit for my students who are using the standing desks. The regular classroom chairs are too short for my 3rd graders. These stools are adjustable so they will be able to get a good fit. This way they will be able to stand or sit depending on their preference.
