I teach music to students from Kindergarten through 8th grade. My 5th grade students are exceptional and they yearn for MORE hands on experiences in music.
My fifth grade students have boundless energy and determination for the things that they love.
I want to bring them a new challenge that I know they will love. Ukulele's are surprisingly inexpensive and eventual personal ownership may be a realistic goal for many students. This instrument is an instrument of JOY!
Ukulele's are uniquely capable of teaching MANY musical concepts, while being portable, easy to learn and a fully unpretentious instrument. My goal is to acquire a classroom set of ukuleles for use in my fifth grade music classes.
My Project
The goal is to teach the basics of ukulele to my fifth grade music classes. It is an easy instrument to learn and will help them gain musical confidence.
The students will actively learn about melody and chord structure, and learn to accompany themselves as they sing along!
The student who learns a little can play a lot! By learning three or four chords, a person can play and sing hundreds of songs.
The dream is to teach the ukulele in hopes that my students share, play and enjoy the music of this instrument way beyond the years they spend with me in the classroom.
