This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher and the K-5 Math Leader in a Title I elementary school, I often times notice that our students are not exposed to science outside of the classroom. Over seventy percent of our campus receives free or reduced-price lunch and often times, we have students who are not capable of even having their parents supply their own school supplies.
Our school is located in an area that was hit and affected by Hurricane Harvey, but our students are actively coming to school eager to learn.
In my classroom, I work hard to ensure a safe, secure and comfortable environment for learning and seek ways to make learning innovative. We have created a culture on our campus where our students actually look forward to the bus pulling up at their houses in the morning to bring them to school.
These kids will take advantage of any learning opportunity that is brought their way. Our motto at our campus is Reach for the Stars and our students do their best to reach beyond them.
My Project
Students at times have to go to the office and it is not always for a bad reason. We need a trusted space for our students to come, feel safe, and most importantly be able to share what is on their mind.
The office should be welcoming for both students and for parents.
We need an office chair with mat for parents, students and staff to sit on. We also need a shelf to put decorations made by students on. We also need motivational posters to go on the wall, and frames to display student achievements. All of these supplies will be used to beautiful our trusted space for students to go to.
