Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a special education school, serving emotionally disturbed, learning disabled, and other special education classified students.
Our students come from low socio-economic backgrounds in New York City.
Over 95% of the student body is eligible for free lunch, and more than 90% receive public assistance.
I am currently an Art teacher where a number of factors contribute to a challenging but constructive environment for students, and for myself. The classes are made up of students with a range of learning levels, as well as a variety of emotional disturbances and behavioral issues, ranging from Asperger Syndrome to ADHD. Along with refining my ability to teach to multiple levels of learning in a single class, my time spent here has provoked a new level of self-sufficiency for me in terms of classroom materials. Funding is short, and anything above the barest essentials must be procured by me.
My Project
An Easel is an art supply that is considered a luxury in my district. Our students have never painted using easels and always ask me why we don't have them.
If this project gets funded our students will be afforded the opportunity to have a fun artistic experience as well as learn painting techniques that will help them if they choose to pursue are at the collegiate level.
The supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door!
