My children are in kindergarten. Some of my students are as young as four years old. The class is a mixture of general education and special education students. We are a Title I school, which means our need is great. Despite their hardships, my children come to school every day to learn and gain new experiences.
Kindergarten is an exciting, yet challenging time for my young scholars.
Remember learning what it means to be a friend? That's just one thing that we will work on this year. We are also studying math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and the arts. We have our work cut out for us, but we can do it.
Did you know that the Bronx zoo is the largest urban zoo in the country? Even though the Bronx zoo is only a bus ride away for my students, most of them cannot afford to go and experience all that the Bronx zoo has to offer. If fully funded, we will take 25 students and 6 chaperones on a total experience tour of the zoo, with access to all the rides and the exhibits it has to offer.
In the spring, we will study animals and their adaptations.
What better way to bring the unit to life than to visit the zoo? It is one thing to sit and read about the animals and their adaptations, yet it is a whole different experience to see the animals up close and personal. Most of my kindergarteners have never been to the zoo before; so you would be funding their very first trip to the zoo.
