I have a great group of kids this year. Most students already have some culinary experience and are excited to be offered this program. We live in a large county in southern Virginia. The food service industry is always expanding and hiring. These students will have lifelong skills they could use out in the real world.
So many homes are busy and utilize convenience foods these days.
I think teaching kids how to cook and about proper nutrition is so important. We all feel super lucky our first project was funded in under 24 hours.
Students will not only get to experience a culinary class demonstration and tour, they will also get to hear about a culinary apprenticeship program. Students will travel to both ECPI and Kingsmill Resort and Spa to see first-hand opportunities that are available for them. It is so important to allow students to see into what their futures could hold.
Students taking this trip are from my Culinary 2 class and have had the equivalent of four years of training and learning.
They have all taken a ServeSafe Managers exam and most are interested in pursuing a career in Culinary Arts or a related field.
