Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher, cheerleader, best friend, surrogate mother, and counselor for my students! My students know I am there for them when they need me.

My students are inquisitive bilingual learners.

They are learning Spanish while still improving their English language. Our school is a one-way immersion program meaning they are learning academic Spanish from me, the teacher. My student's Spanish is a heritage language, a language spoken by grandparents or great-grandparents.

My little learners are a rambunctious group of smart individuals. They have so much energy My little loves come to school every day and share their stories. Oh boy, the stories! My kids, like all students, deserve to have the best to learn. If my kids are excited about the learning that happens every day it's because I match that enthusiasm for learning and teaching. Please support my classroom and the vision I have for the future of America.

My Project

My project is an Economics Based Traveling Bin that works its way through grade levels at our school.

Throughout the year, each grade level class will receive the bin with all the supplies needed for that class to read economics books, lesson plans for the teacher, play money math games, and create a class store where kids from across campus come to purchase materials that students have made in class.

The class store is open all month long during recess one day a week. When the class store is closed for business the traveling bin goes to a different class and they open their class store. The bin will begin with start-up money, that has been donated, for any supplies that need to be purchased. When the bin is ready for its next stop the class returns the start-up money and either choose to reinvest in their store or donate some or all of the proceeds to a community service learning project that the class chooses to donate to. Our school believes in providing service learning experiences to our students. This would truly help our students raise funds for someone one in the community in need. I foresee, and hope, that each grade level donates part or all of their funds to a charitable cause whilst learning about financial literacy.
