My students are technology wizards! Unfortunately, they do not have the magic wands needed to cast their spells of learning.
My Fourth Grade students attend a Title 1 school with over 70% of the population are on Free/Reduced Lunch plans.
Most of the 20 students in my classroom are in the ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) program. Even though the students face many obstacles, they are always eager and willing to learn. They enjoy the opportunity to work with one another and engage in hands-on experiences.
My Project
I would like to purchase iPods for the students to use during small group time. There are many apps available that will meet the students' various learning abilities. Through the use of the iPods the students can work cooperatively, improve their vocabulary, practice reading comprehension, and raise their fluency. They will also participate in virtual field trips, seeing things they might not be able to visit in person--due to financial constraints.
Students no longer find answers in a dictionary or an expired textbook. I look forward to immersing them in the language-rich environment of inquiry, imagination, and creation that can only be discovered through next-generation tools. I want to see my ESOL students connect through Skype, Twitter, and QR Codes. The learning opportunities with new technology are endless! My students have the desire and attitude to embrace this new technological world. Please help me increase their access to it with iPods!
Success requires the practice and preparation afforded to those with the resources every student deserves.
This is your opportunity to provide a small investment with the potential for an immeasurable return! Thank you again for your time and consideration!
