A Terrarium Is an Eco-System We Want to Study!

My Students

The kids in my 3rd grade class inspire me everyday. They come to school wanting to be challenged, wanting to learn, and wanting to be heard. Each child has a story to their life, and a need to be met. They love to learn hands-on, to see and to experience what they are learning as "real life".

Every person, every student, and every moment matters.

We have only one class for each grade. The small size of our school means every student is cared for individually by the entire staff. Intervention and enrichment opportunities are given one-on-one. We love our students!

My Project

In 3rd grade, students learn about environments. Students begin to understand that they impact the environment. Our actions have consequences. Using a model, to investigate the interactions between organisms and their environments, is a powerful way to learn.

We aren't just growing plants, we're growing kids.

We'd love to have a terrarium to explore organisms and environments! Students will recognize that all plants and animals live in an environment and affect each other. One of our science benchmarks for students to understand is that "for any particular environment, some types of plants and animals survive well, some survive less well and some cannot survive at all" (core science standard). We want to ask questions, explore and learn what that means for us.
