I need to professional resources in order to help me learn new methods and strategies to engage even my most resistant learners.

I work with a diverse group of high school students. Each of them comes with their own unique learning needs. However, together we are working towards one goal: to become lifelong learners, thinkers, and readers.
I am a reading teacher at a Title I school in Connecticut where 100% of my students are reading three or more levels below their grade level.
While these students face many challenges in their life and many of them have experienced trauma, they work hard each day to become better versions of themselves. Many of my students have the goal to be college and career ready but can become easily discouraged. They realize that they need to be literate individuals in order to achieve this, but this can be overwhelming for them at times. We are striving to work together to foster a positive learning environment that builds positive relationships, encourages improved student attendance and a higher level of engagement.
Teaching students to read and write is one of the most rewarding experiences for any teacher. However, sometimes students do not respond to the method being used. I hope to be able to read and reference the professional texts to help me provide high quality lessons for all my students.
A teacher is a lifelong learner that is always trying to improve their craft to better the educational experience of their students!
Books such as The Book Whisper, can help me to find strategies to motivate my students to have a true appreciation for reading. The Reading Strategies text will help me to provide more differentiated small groups to my students who struggle with decoding and comprehension.
Please help me to refine my skills so that I can provide the best education for our youth.
