A Take-Home Reading Library for Our Classroom!

Help me give my students a take-home reading library! We are a new school and do not have one available to our students. This will be an incredible tool to help students in their reading goals.

My Students

I have an incredible group of students in my first-grade classroom. These kids are champions for all that they have faced and overcome during the pandemic! I have students from every walk of life. Students who are just learning English, students who deal with daily mental and physical challenges, and many who attended their kindergarten year online.

Covid has interrupted some of their most important years of learning, and they are now working incredibly hard to make up the difference for the learning they lost out on.

Many of my students came into my first-grade classroom well behind socially and academically at absolutely no fault of their own. These kids are eager and enthusiastic learners who love coming to school each day. In our class, we are a family, and we are learning what it means to work together and to care for one another. They teach me something new every day with their enthusiasm, compassion, and perseverance. I am so lucky to be their teacher!

My Project

Books are a student's best friend! They take them places they have never been before and teach them so many new and wonderful things. However, the challenge for many young students learning to read is that they do not have access to books that are on their reading level at home.

I believe that one of the biggest ways to help a student feel successful is to ensure that they have access to "just right books" at home and at school.

This classroom library will allow each student the opportunity to practice reading books each night that not only interest them, but that support and challenge their abilities. Allowing them to practice with parents and caregivers, and to show off what they are learning. We only have so many hours each day at school where students have access to "just right" reading materials. However, getting to take them home and practice them can give them an incredible boost in their learning. Reading is Power!
