Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach three groups of 30 students in PE classes and my students are fabulous. They are truly motivated for sports although they are kind of nerds. I also coach high school basketball and I'm the assistant coach for football.

I am in charge of Benjamin Franklin, of course not the real one, but the costume and work with students who impersonate the great Benjamin.

We like to refer to the great inventor quite often and Benjamin greets people at the door for special events.

I interact with students, through coaching. It is very useful, as I work in the front office a few hours a day. They often confide in me and I try to help with any issues they may have. When needed, I refer them to the social worker or counselors.

When they come and talk about their families' financial difficulties, I try to help my students get appropriate equipment or school supplies. I hope that you, good DonorsChoose supporters, will want to help us. Thank you very much.

My Project

My football team - I'm the assistant coach - has not been very successful for the past few years, so after brainstorming, we realized that we do not have the equipment required to practice some skills systematically.

This is why we are kindly soliciting a landing mat or tackle mat.

The landing mat that I wish to obtain is a big crash pad. Its soft foam will break my players' fall and make every landing a safe one.

My players will be encouraged to go “full bore” in practice drills. Kick blockers will dive onto it. Backs will use it to practice leaping over a pile-up at the goal line. Receivers will use it to practice making diving catches. Rush Ends will use it to practice sacking the QB. Linebackers and DB's will use it to practice tackling.
