Here we goooo! I am now back to first grade after teaching third grade for two years. No matter the age, I absolutely love my students in each of their own unique ways.
I have a very diverse group, some still learning the English language.
Because I was (and will continue to be) in an integrated co-teaching environment, some of my students in first grade also have Individualized Education Plans based on their special needs such as Speech and Language Impairment or Occupational Therapy. Most families here are low-income and students eat free or reduced-priced breakfast and lunch. Everyone is hard working and incredibly sweet!
My Project
More than 4 years ago, I had the privilege of getting a laptop donated by DonorsChoose and have loved using it with the children and my colleagues almost every single day. However, it started slowing down and freezing often. The only thing I can do is restart the computer and risk losing work. Sometimes we lose time with students waiting patiently for my connected screen to show on our projector. Also, with the recent addition of a special Cricut machine to the class to help us create and cut work, the laptop is not capable of utilizing its design program. It won't even open! We have had to borrow others' newer laptops in order to create projects and designs for our class through the program's website.
A new laptop will not only allow me to continue learning and designing projects for my class, but it will help me get lesson plans typed, research done, create and monitor student data, and show my students visual things for real life applications.
Students will be able to research on the Internet with my guidance for their nonfiction writing. They will be able to watch videos on BrainPop and educational sites to give them insight on the world outside of their own lives. It will be faster and sites will not buffer and build frustration in the students waiting. The laptop will also help my daily planning through Microsoft Office with my co-teacher as we type and print all of our work. The sleeve will protect it from damage, and the USB-C adapter will help me be able to connect it to a USB and to our projector so that all the students can see the screen. Your donation will help us complete our daily tasks more efficiently!
