My Geometry students are some of the best students that I have had the pleasure of teaching in my career. They are hard workers, who are dedicated to learning. Their confidence in Geometry grows with each new lesson and it shows in their participation and work completion. They allow me to leave the classroom each day with the feeling of accomplishment.
Do you remember being asked by your teacher to go to the board to work out a math problem?
Do you remember the sinking feeling in your gut? What if there was technology available to ease that uneasiness? I have many brilliant students who are hesitant to go to the board because they are nervous about being in front of their peers. I want to offer them an opportunity to show their awesomeness from the comfort of their desk. Help me, help them.
My Project
Our Geometry classroom utilizes a Smart Board every day, and it is a wonderful piece of technology that helps to streamline lessons and practice. I truly believe that with the addition of a Microsoft Surface Go, we can expedite the process of learning. The Surface will allow my students and me the opportunity to manipulate what is on the Smart Board from anywhere in the classroom.
The benefits of having access to a Surface tablet include: control of lessons/slides from throughout the room, dual writing, and inking.
I envision being able to hand the Surface to a student and ask them to show the class how they completed the Geometry problem. Also, the Surface will allow one person to write at the board and another from the tablet, allowing for great collaborative work. The ability to ink from anywhere will allow me to move freely, actively scan the learning environment (less time with my back to my students), and the luxury of stopping at student desks for check-ins.
