Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The school is small in size and full of good hearted people who work very hard with every child in the building. Every child in the building knows the staff and they come to school excited to learn. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch each day; and many of our students receive meals on Friday to take home with them over the weekend. Even though our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, they work hard in school every single day.
Our school has a very high mobility rate.
We constantly have students leaving and entering our school. These students are usually behind in one or more areas in the classroom, so it takes teamwork and flexibility to work with these students to help them to get caught up with their peers.
This is what makes our school so special; everyone comes to school each day ready to work hard and make gains. In every single classroom, you always see a small group working! Working in small groups, is something that makes our building so amazing, every student is able to get the instruction they need at their own level. We strive to help each child thrive!
My Project
My students need pencils, crayons, colored pencils, glue sticks, and folders in order to be successful learners in the classroom. Throughout the school year students move from school to school frequently and they do not always get to take their school supplies with them. So when they come to a new school they often feel unprepared and not ready to learn in their new classroom.
Through having these supplies it takes the anxiety away from these students and allows them to focus on their learning in the classroom!
When these supplies are already in the classroom for these students, they feel more prepared and less anxious about not having what they need. When they feel prepared they are more engaged as learners! These basic school supplies will go a long way in a classroom setting where many of the students are very transient and often move to a new school multiple times in a year.
