Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with students who come from various backgrounds. Many of whom are English Language Learners from low income families who have a drive to learn. These students are friendly and love to be engaged and immersed in the English language and our school culture.
Many of my students have limited access to opportunities due to family structure and responsibilities.
Many of them are beginning a new life in this country and deal with isolation, transition and adjustment to the expectations of a new culture and school system.
My Project
My students need a camera and microphone that they can use to record their experiences and feeling transitioning into a new place in the form of short movies. My English language learner students will also utilize these devices to interview each other and native speakers to practice their English skills. Each will need individual earbuds to use while editing their films on a movie editing software.
Having access to these materials will allow my students to integrate technology into their language learning experience, allowing them to apply 21st-century skills while recording, editing and writing within their newly acquired language.
This kinesthetic learning project will make it easier for students to feel comfortable while retaining skills that are necessary for learning a new language.
